Visitors from PNG

These are our neighbours to our immediate left.

The boys and I heard some drumming and singing coming from their front yard one afternoon so we popped over to see what was going on.

Turns out there were a number of people from PNG visiting Sentani for our church demonination's Synod. A group of them were being hosted by our neighbours and were running through some of the songs they were performing as part of the celebrations.

There are many similarities between Papuan and Papua New Guinean culture, and it all felt and sounded very familiar, apart from the strangeness of some of them speaking to me in English!

Church in Malang

This church is about a 30min walk across the valley. We pass through a couple of 'village' suburbs on the way.

We meet Pak Mul, selling bakso, a broth-like soup with meat balls.
We pass many pet birds being put outside to enjoy the morning sun.
Stopping for a quick chat to answer the standard 'where are you going?' greeting.
Across the creek, up the hill..

..and we're ready for the air-conditioning. The song lyrics: '...that this story may be planted in my heart forever.'

Snack time.

Play time.

Time to get a lift home in one of the church vehicles. Nice!

Weddings

Our lovely neighbours Shelley and John got married recently.

Shelley found time to feed her favourite toddler at the lunch afterwards. A funny thing: the word for 'spoon-feed a child' is the same as 'bribe' in Indonesian.

Church in Sentani

Hanya oleh anugerah. Itu saja, ada tidak yang lain.
Only by grace. That is all; there is nothing else:
Different culture, different language, same wonderful message.
Indonesians are very much into musical items in church.
This is Philip's karate instructor or Sensei.
He is a great guy and we go to the same church.
Soren climbing trees with kids after church.
We walk the 10 or so minutes to church with a few of our neighbours.
